Meet our new Cityworks team member

Our new Cityworks colleague, Kate Moerel, chats with us about her career, her current experience of COVID-19 and how she switches off from work.

CW: Could you start by briefly telling us a bit about yourself?

KM: I worked in digital agencies across London and Brighton for over 10 years and after having my children found a real passion for spreading the flexible working message. For the last two years I have been working with organisations to increase flexibility and educate their clients on diversity, inclusivity and agility in the workplace.

Having left Brighton, I now live in the New Forest with my husband and two children (8 and 5). We spend our time paddle boarding, kayaking, mountain biking and exploring. As well as trying to juggle all manner of home schooling during COVID-19 lockdown we’re working our way through the Disney + channel, building a lot of lego and baking a lot of bread!

CW: Tell us about a memorable work moment…..

KM: During my time at a particular digital agency I pitched to digitize the Royal Collection in the most exciting venue I’ve ever had a meeting: Buckingham Palace. The pitch was held in the room next to the infamous balcony in the largest and grandest room I have ever worked in. After walking the Palace’s great halls, I was able to sneak inside and have a peep through the window and out across the balcony. An incredible experience that will always stay with me.

CW: What are you most looking forward to in your new Cityworks role?

KM: I’ve joined Cityworks at a time of great global change as COVID-19 is forcing organisations to look closely at the way they work. There are dramatic shifts in the world of work and I’m excited to work with our network to help encourage agile, inclusive, remote and flexible workforces that are supported in a way that yields very positive results and change.

CW: How do you switch off from a busy work day/week?

KM: I love listening to podcasts whilst running/walking across the forest. I get lost in a world that isn’t about work or family and gives me time to escape and reset. Not a hard task when the only traffic I come across is horses or deer!

CW: Tell us a work or life ‘hack' that works for you

KM: I love food! It’s really important to me that my family eat the best I can give them. Batch cooking is a life hack that makes my working week so much easier! I spend my Sundays cooking up a storm with my daughter and it makes me so happy that we can have tasty dinners all week even though we have busy work days and the juggle of school and clubs.
